Days trekking through the centre of one of the most rugged and starkly
beautiful parts of Rupshu on a route that is very rarely travelled. Lying
between Zanskar and the Tibetian border to the east is the region known as
Rupshu, the highest and least well known part of Ladakh. This area is
physically a part of the Chang Tang plains which extend eastward from Rupshu
for almost 1000 km across Tibet. This area is inhabited by the hardy and
cheerful nomadic people known as Chang-Pa of Tibetian origin.

Pindari, the most accessible glacier in the Kumaon
region, is located at 3820 mt. in Patti Malla Danpur of Almora district.
Measuring 3 km in length and 0.25 km in breadth, it owes its existence to
the vast quantities of snow prcipitatied from Nanda Devi and other lofty
summits of the Greater Himalayan range. It takes its name from the Pindar
river which originates in the Traill's Pass above the glacier. The trip is
immensely rewarding. Though the inhabited areas can be seen for first 2-3
days of trek, the dense forests along the Pindar river and waterfalls are
spectacular and varieties of species of birds are seen. The fauna and flora
change dramatically in next few days.
